Meet Mr.Peña

Mr. Peña is in his third season as Sandy Springs Middle School Orchestra Director and his 10 th year with Fulton County Schools. He received a BM in Music Performance from Columbus State University and an Education equivalency from Georgia State University.

Mr. Peña started his musical studies in his native country Honduras and came to the US on a full scholarship granted by the Schwob Foundation. He studied with Patricio Cobos and Manuel Diaz at CSU and spent his college summers at Brevard Music Center. While in college Mr. Peña auditioned for a position with the Columbus and Macon Symphony Orchestras, where he remains a member of the viola section.

Mr. Peña is a member of GMEA, where he has served as a judge, panelist and festival conductor. Many of his students have been members of the All State Orchestra in Savannah, Georgia. His school orchestra has received Excellent and Superior ratings at the GMEA Performance Evaluation Events. His teaching background is in Middle and High school education where he enjoys working with young students and helps them bring forth their musical ability and full use of their talent as individuals and as Orchestra members.

Mr. Peña and his wife Silvia have three children; Camila, Julio y Rafael. They enjoy the outdoors and love traveling.
